Some times yes, sometimes no. I've had high end brakes that squeaked, and cheap ones that didn't. Add in water and dust, and you might or might not get squeaking.

The problem is making a bike last the duration of the race under horrible conditions. Having good legs, then being taken out of the race because of mechanicals really sucks.
