Yeah, the frame has to clear the rim width. But from the hub you can probably build some extensions. It won't be easy. The tires on my Giant Stiletto are over 3", so that's getting fairly wide. ...

For a super wide tire, you'd probably need to bend the brake arm so that it could clamp onto the frame, or make some kind of adapter
