Mine had the cantilevered drop outs so that wasn't a problem. With your dropouts, I'd probably use the skewer type mounting, For those check out Axiom racks, some of them mount that way.

Not sure if your bike is the same as the 1990-ish Cannondales I have dealt with, but I found that there is a small threaded hole in the dropout on each side and my Axiom Streamliner rack mounted...
