I don't worry about snagging my shoe on the cable. However, the top mounted pulley ought to help keep the shifting happy when the axle changes position in the dropout.

Yeah, just know the limitations of the equipment and ride within those. Pushing the edges of the envelope is fine, but you gotta remember that out at the corner is where the stamp gets canceled.

With the pulley up high, the shift cable is a little less affected by movement of the axle in the dropouts. This isn't often any problem, though.
