Use old spoke nipples as cable ends , just slide the nipple over the cable end, shank end first, squease the nipple shank with the wire cutting jaws of a pair of pliers (gently) to fix to the cable...

Put a bit hot water in the bottom of the bottle place the top beside it in the microwave & give them a good 'nukeing' this should sterilize them ok.
