I ride the single track with friends all time over here in Patapsaco state park. More then an hour or so does make my hands hurt between thumb and hand. It will make you a better CX rider as well...

Purchase the Microshift option. I have a set on my CX bike and they have been fine. You can run those BB7 brakes with those levers. I do with no issues.
