I love my folding bike!! Share stories about why you love your folding bike

Dear BIkeforum,

It's been a long while since I've last posted.
Over the years, I've gotten fatter, balder, and didn't get on my bike for a while.

A month ago, I passed by a lady parked next to...

probably not in your price range, but a used xootr swift might tick all your other boxes (and originated in NYC, too!).
You might be able to get one off CL used.

Otherwise, probably a cheap dahon...

Leisesturn,

Thanks for the input. I don't "need" to put on north road bars, but I just happen to have them in my garage (and know that they fit my components). I've already got an adjustable...

Saddle? Any recommendations?

Today, I biked to work.
I clocked myself at 16-18 minutes.
I rode along the beach, with the sun in my face.
By car, it's 30 min due to all the crazy soccer moms dropping off kids...stop and...

Thanks for the tips.

I just got back on it the other day and had a nice ride to the beach.
The hills going back were tough.
I think I need to drop 20 lb, not my bike (although, I may try...

I love my Xootr.
It's heavy and slow--but that's cause I have a 12 lb rack on it, and I'm fat.

Downside, it's a closet folder--folds thin but bulky.
Brompton's hard to beat for sticking in...

IGH= Internal gear hub?

Titanium ones? I think that I'll need to lose some weight prior to justifying a bike in titanium.
I'm just hoping for a reliable, but relatively light rig for exploring...

Help me get back to riding! Xootr fix/upgrade suggestions?

I've gotten fat, lazy, and weak in the last thee years.

I'd like to get back on my Xootr, but I find the following:
1. It's heavy.
2. Only 2 speeds work on the shifter.
3. It seemed to work...

Fauvette,

I'd also like to toss in what type of riding you're into, what type of multimodal, etc.
I ultimately chose a Xootr Swift because I wanted a zippy, fun to ride bike, with minimal...

I'll chime in.

Look into a used Japanese hatchback. I personally like the Honda Fit.
However, I'm still driving my '97 Corolla with no hiccups.

I didn't do anything yet.
I've been too busy driving around because of work.

My recent gig is closer, so my swift will see more action.

Any suggestions regarding the rack, mudguards?

Can Dahon accessories be used on a Xootr Swift?

Some of the Dahon parts on the ThorUSA website are very attractive to me.

While I still think that my Xootr is inherently better than any dahon on the market, I've got to really say that they make...

What tube to get for a Strida XT?

I'd bought a strida clone from Bruce a bit ago.
I tried selling it, but couldn't.

Then, I fell in love with it again at the CDA convention.
In about five minutes, I was able to picked up...

London tube strike

I just read about the London Tube strike.

How are you guys doing across the pond?
Have you been able to win any new converts, or are people just chuffed?

Guys, ever try a Swift?

I have a feeling that you might be happier with one.
Stiff, fast acceleration, and it folds.
That being said, this Hooligan looks like a lot of fun.

However, I'm pretty certain that she kept it in her room...

That's what the bike guy said too.

Do you have any tips to remove the pedal?
I don't feel comfortable drilling it out.
However, I do happen to have a set of machine taps.

If it costs too...

It's the pedal.
The pedal is bent at a weird angle and won't unscrew with my pedal wrench.

The crank itself is fine (I think).
If I fix it, my mom has expressed interest in it...otherwise I'll...
