I really like the photoshop mockup!

Anyways, beauty is a subjective thing.
I'd be more attracted to a pretty lady in work clothes, than in a bikini.
It speaks to me of self confidence, of not...

First, I don't think that your bike is too ugly.
I think the accessories clash a bit, but that's easily remidied.

1. Choose a look.
Do you want Classic and Vintage "bespoken" or hipster...

When I had one, I just used a backpack.

The carryme was surprisingly capable, and a bunch of fun to coast on very good roads for distances under 2 miles.
However, any pothole/curb/crack, and...

Thanks for all the input guys!

I guess that my idea of what a "capable bike guy" can do is a bit warped.
In the folder section (where I normally am at), Jur has a built up quite a few of his own...

Thanks for the tip.

I forgot to mention that I tend to move very slowly and methodically. It took me 4 years to find my current dental practice, and about 8-9 months of deliberation to figure out...

I forgot to mention:

1. I consider my Xootr to be at least the equal of any good hardtail. With the Schwalbe big apples, I have almost as good rolling resistance as most 700 cc tires. The...

Nice tips!

I'm in Alameda, Northern California.
I'd like to get a sports touring bike if possible (zippy enough to hang with my buddy's road bike, but can carry a rack and fenders). With my bike...

By the way,

Can you guys recommend some upgrades?

I've been riding my Swift about 10 years now, and am thinking of sinking some money into it.
I have a mostly stock Xootr swift with North...

Thinking of getting a new (used) bike as a commuter--any suggestions?

Hi fellow retrogrouches,

I'm thinking of splurging on a new (used) ride.
For the past 9-10 years, I've been riding on a Xootr Swift (largely because I can stick it in my closet, so it wouldn't...

I'm probably a bit biased, but I think that the Xootr Swift should be on your short list.
It's much less expensive than most of your other options ($599 on sale, hopefully not getting discontinued),...

Anyone try the BF Pakit?

I'm been happily oblivious about the newer folding bikes for the past several years...until I went to the Bike Friday page.

Has anyone had a chance to try the new Pakit?
I didn't know it was a...

I ordered some, as there's a massive sale at REI right now on them.

My sister just got herself a Public C7i as a commuter.

She rides at 12 mph, so I think it's a better fit for her than the mixte she had.

Which city?

If it's SF or Berkeley, I'd highly recommend storing it inside somehow.
Locking it up outside for about an hour should be fine.
However, overnight--or longer than 8 hours, you would...

I'm surprised that nobody mentioned Uniqlo?

My (sweater snob) buddy looks down on the merino wood sweaters for being too thin and inexpensive.

For me, those are exactly the reasons why I love...

I can second the comments--although none of them malicious.
They seem to be in a few categories:

1. Kids -- "Why are you on a kid bike? You're an adult."
2. Parents -- "I want one. Whoopee!?"...

I love my folding bike!! Share stories about why you love your folding bike

Dear BIkeforum,

It's been a long while since I've last posted.
Over the years, I've gotten fatter, balder, and didn't get on my bike for a while.

A month ago, I passed by a lady parked next to...

probably not in your price range, but a used xootr swift might tick all your other boxes (and originated in NYC, too!).
You might be able to get one off CL used.

Otherwise, probably a cheap dahon...

Saddle? Any recommendations?

Today, I biked to work.
I clocked myself at 16-18 minutes.
I rode along the beach, with the sun in my face.
By car, it's 30 min due to all the crazy soccer moms dropping off kids...stop and...

I love my Xootr.
It's heavy and slow--but that's cause I have a 12 lb rack on it, and I'm fat.

Downside, it's a closet folder--folds thin but bulky.
Brompton's hard to beat for sticking in...
