Ah well, I've long outgrown the need to leave black marks all over the garage floor. ;) But it still stands to reason that a driving tire will see more wear than a tire that's only carrying weight.

Camilo, I trust you noted my T-I-C reference to gaining 5 mph with a tire change in the OP. ;) Also note that I branched out and ordered some ProRace 4's too. I expect 6mph gain from them. :D

For the record, a friend joined me so we ordered 4 of the Michelin ProRace4 tires today. $42.xx ea plus whatever CC conversion charges apply. Fast, slow... whatever. Hope they last about 3000 miles...

I try to restrict my gear selection when in the large chainring to the top 8 gears (12-21). The mid-chainring I tend to use 14-25....

Number 2 is easily dealt with if cable tension is the issue. Number 1 didn't use to ever happen, but has been a recent development... which makes me wonder about wear and tear since the new chain...
