Hold up... on the subject of brute force, why not just crush/shatter the lowers into coarse chunks with a sledgehammer? It won't necessarily look as cool (the whole intact beast on fire would be...

Thanks, jimx! I haven't really done much time on a FS, but the bikes seem to be a heck of a lot better than they used to be. I'll wager that on a XC-specific FS bike you'd find the energy savings...

In this case, the FS she's getting weighs less than one of the shortlisted hardtails. Twice the price, but better components.

I used to be an old-school steel hardtail nut (still am riding one),...

I think I remember DuoTracks being substandard wanna-be forks found on low-end and department store bikes. I could be wrong, but RockShox was king in those days. If they are what I remember them...

I found a pair of cycling undies a few years back on sale, and use them pretty much exclusively (under baggies). Same basic design as a chamois-padded lycra short, only a little shorter in the legs...

I'm not the only one still running these classics? MEC stocks them dirt cheap (around $22/tire). Don't be tempted by the $8 Kenda clones (really!). I was using them for training and was planning...

Well.... change of plan. She got a raise yesterday, so now we'll be looking for a full suspension bike in the $1000 - $1500 area.

Now looking for options... so far we're looking at...

Thanks for the input!

And 26 - 27 lbs is pretty good weightwise. I'm still shocked that the Charger is listed at 32 lbs (Norco site)!

Speaking of Giant, there's a Trance 4 listed at a shop...

A couple of other options I tracked down:
Trek 6500 disc - $879
Rocky Fusion - $719

Going to go look at the Rocky today and see if that works as well as the Charger. There seems to be quite a...
