Yeah, it's 65 bucks or so most places I've rented from. If I'm on vacation I'll plan a nice ride, but not for the whole time.

And depending on grade, etc. Around here, flat roads, 12 mph would be a cruise. Put me in the hills and I'm awful at climbing.. so 12 mph may be good.

Depending on your terrain, 3.5 miles isn't a bad ride for a singlespeed. I ride my fixed gear 3.5 miles into downtown, It's got one bridge and thats it.

I'm "lucky" in that I have to force myself to eat after long rides. I know that it's a sign of not eating enough ON the ride, but I'm also not wolfing down pizzas when I get home.

I took a sidewalk nap once because I was too far gone to carry on. 20 minutes and a can of coke got me back on the bike and I finished the ride. I was way under on the nutrition / drink on the ride....

Tampa is a bit of a stretch, but if you go further south to the real retirement areas (Fort myers, Naples, etc.) The chain restaurants are pretty popular. Lots of snowbirds just want to eat the same...

I do O+G work too, I rent a bike if I can, but I have company vehicles and too much equipment to bring it by bike. A week off the bike isn't bad, I wouldn't deal with buying a bike for a week trip.
