The best road mechanical disc brakes are still avid BB7's.

Make sure you use disc brake housing - this will stop the ****ty spongy feel. Beyond that better brake pads/rotors....

Optimal routing produces a less aggressive bend depending on where and what shape bar you are using. This will be obvious when you are replacing/installing housing from shifters

Eggbeaters require maintenance, much more than a shimano pedal. And failure to maintain causes failures like pedal body flying off the spindles when riding. Not a good failure mode. AKA they suck.
