I double the recommendation on work gloves. Anything with a velcro wrist strap will do. They're great for this application, and often cost less than bike-specific gloves.

OP here. Since I started this thread two years ago, I actually did crash my CAAD 7 and ended up buying a used 2001 CAAD 6 off ebay. I guess it's an upgrade though, since the CAAD 6 came with those...

I like watching the first set of turns after the start/finish. It's fun to watch a huge pro field negotiate a tricky, sharp off-camber turn at speed, plus there are no crowds there.
