Yes, attach the seat to the bike, it won't be a problem, but you shouldn't need to drill anywhere. Look for online videos on youtube for a tutorial to give you some visual idea, its easy to do...

I had a friend do that and it worked great, obviously you still have to choose smooth road surfaces, but it worked for her. I'd do it if necessary.
