Hey I recognize that basement! FWIW, I am pretty sure the Mavic bottom bracket was an aftermarket upgrade on that bike. I did use a Stronglight puller on that crank. It was French thread for sure.

+1. Disc forks are constructed to much stronger specifications to handle the braking forces they exert. Plus, there are plenty of disc equipped road bikes available now if you want to go that route....

As others have stated I would go with the EL...

As others have stated I would go with the EL Compass Stampede pas in 32mm. You can fir a 32mm on that bike with plenty of clearance or at least I did on my Trek's.
