Who really cares. Wear what you want. I've raced in both and prefer a skinsuit to the jersey/bib combo. But again, it doesn't make that much of a difference to me.

i'd race them, but pay attention to how soft/grippy the rubber is on the tread. if hard and brittle, you may want to set them aside and use them for training.

I will generally carry over a lot of my fitness from the road. I may take a really easy week at the begining of September, but not much. As for burnout, it's never been a problem.
