I use Cane Creek Direct Curve brakes on my cyclocross bike. They work well and give good modulation, without the need for a Travel Agent.

I don't know if you can get Genesis bikes in the US, but they've just launched a whole updated range here in the UK, including the Day One singlespeed CX. I saw it at the bike show here in London...
