Go to a bike shop, get one fitted to you and go with it. Cheap bikes break on jumps. Good ones go from jump to jump with little problems. Buy well, play hard.

I do try to anticipate the right gear for the hill. Right now, I try not to shift going up a hill unless I really have to. I shift on the down-hill though.
