The new 2014 Synapse's sport 28c tires on all but the Hi Mod that sports a 25c, so my guess you can fit a 28c with no problems. Check the Cdale website for the specs on the tires they're running on...

That stem isn't what came on it from the factory but for the price, that's a small expense I'd accept. Great looking bike at a great price.

For a guy your size (I was there as well) I would look into getting 25c Conti's when you find them on sale. You'll enjoy the smoother ride, I'll never go back to 23c.
