Question about SRAM Neutral Race Support on race days

I'm a mid-pack Masters racer not on a team or anything. At my local CX series, SRAM is typically at races providing "neutral race support" and they have a car with spare bikes, wheels and a mechanic...

Haha. At some point it's just a bunch of patches glued together, with no actual tube left.

There isn't much to it, but check out youtube if you're unsure how to proceed. There are at least a few decent videos on there showing how to install.

Hopefully that solves it. I've had problems with the plastic rim strips that come pre installed on some wheelsets moving around and causing flats, usually at the valve stem. Replacing with the tape...

Couldn't you just take off the plastic rim strip and put some new rim tape on there yourself? It's very cheap (like $3 for a roll of Velox) and easy to do. The tape will stay in place and work better...

The topic of this thread is "the future of disc brakes".
The use of disc brakes in the pro peleton seems like it will play a role in the future of discs on road bikes.

Which part of my reply is...

I'm sure it's been discussed on here in the past, but I feel like the "discs are dangerous in the peleton because they are sharp" argument makes no sense. First of all, any pilup is going to involve...

I pinch flatted a brand new tube last night trying to squeeze a conti GP 4000s tire into my Ultegra wheels. These wheels are really tough to mount any tire on, it seems.

I've heard if you leave...

I use 25mm GP4000s on Ultegra wheels. Other than being a pain in the ass to get them (or any tire) onto those wheels, they work just fine.

I tend to run them around 90-95psi. I weigh about 165lbs....

Interesting. I'm looking at this from the opposite point of view I guess. Discs simplify wheel swapping within the same bike because there is no need to adjust brake caliper clearance for different...

This was never my intent. I am (was) simply trying to have a conversation about the differences between road and CX bikes, not win some weird pissing match about who's right and who isn't.

What is wrong with Velocity rims? I have a set of Major Tom tubulars for CX racing (24h front, 28h rear), and they've held up great.
Possibly the best $400 bike related purchase I've ever made.

The only assumption I made was that we are talking about "a comparable road bike". I'm not sure an $8000 race bike is comparable to a $400 department store bike.
