Never raced. I've always been brutally slow on a bike. Even when I was in my prime. Just have terrific endurance at low speeds and can carry quite a lot of weight.

As long as the lighter weight wheels support your weight properly you should get some gain for your efforts. I can't go too light on the wheels, because I have a way of slowly destroying them.
