I used an ENO hub on an aluminum Basso frame for years and had zero problems like what OP describes. And yes, I was running it fixed. +1 on user error, +1 on ENO being awesome

Beard trimmer = short enough to get most of the benefit, but without the insane ingrown hairs some of us get. Also far easier upkeep. Veet also great below the hips.
