This is actually not a big deal in my experience. While nice to have, it's cheap to fix if not present.
I used hose clamps on two of the kids bikes without bosses.
    There are also decent handlebars...

Both bikes are Craigslist finds. DS has around mid-2000s vintage of Trek MT60. DD rides GT Scamp 20. While I would prefer something lighter and with rigid front fork, it's fine. The durability has...

My 6 y.o. occasionally shifts. When she feels like it. Or when the hill is really steep. Grip shifts are no problem for her.
Her 8 y.o. brother is better at shifting, when he wants to go fast, but...

    Thanks!
All the kids in these pictures now ride their own bikes. So nowadays at most I tow my youngest (4.5 y.o.) on a T-A-B.
Even the girl in the front basket now rides her own set of 20" wheels....

Burley Piccolo is an an excellent (but pricey) idea.
I wish Piccolos (or Kazoos) were readily available on used market, alas here they are not.

Trail-a-bike mounts to a seat post. So the rear cargo box/basket might not work - maybe you can put picnic supplies in the trailer? Some of them have dedicated storage space. Or put a front rack?...

    Mina,
with the seats up front and on the back the bike will be quite hard to handle.
I did that but only occasionally, for a very short distance with the smallest kid in the front basket:...

    A story from the trenches:
Today my 4.5 y.o. son did not want to ride the trailer bike to school with me. After much questioning from me, he confessed, that he was not going near the local high...

+1 - I get a lot of "did you loose a kid?" comments from co-workers when I ride with an empty TAB :)
And I just chain my TAB & little dude helmet to the fence post at the school's parking lot....

  11. Any tricks you can share to deal with tall grass?

Part of my commute takes me through about 300 ft long patch of non mowed grass.
Tallest it's ever been is about chest high, but this varies during the year.

I routinely used train like this when my kids were younger.
What do you mean by swinging out into traffic?
The train follows the bike path, for it to veer off there it would need a really strong...

I was chaining trail-a-bike to the school fence post to avoid dragging it with me to work. I even did it few times with a trailer when I took more than one kid.

I do trial runs in the neighborhood with my oldest (8 years old) and he is definitely not ready to go out on the "real" street with me.
But maybe it's his little "absent minded" nature....

Do you have reasons to believe the train would be unsafe?
In my role as train engine (one school year) I found that trailer attached to TAB makes it more stable. Kids loved it.

I would think that at this age they would be better suited for a regular bicycle trailer instead of trail-a-bike. Also much easier logistics, especially with that young kids.

Good idea - I'll give it a try on Tuesday.
Normally when I feel it low (probably around 25psi) I pump it up to 35.
I'll try 20, but he's is not as light as you would expect (almost 40 lbs LOL :D ):
