    I have never bothered cleaning old glue off rims....

    I have never bothered cleaning old glue off rims. If there is any that looks loose or flakey, I give it a quick scrape. That makes it a 22 minute job instead of 20.

    A $7000 bike isn't going to make much difference than a $3000 bike in a race. It's mostly about "bling" at that point. And unless someone is on a fully sponsored top UCI team, $7000 bikes are not...

    Maybe you could put an internally geared hub (IGH) on it ? Like the old 3-speed, or more modern 7, 8 speed geared hub. (I don't know much about them)

    If you don't understand the concept of how limits screws work, you will not have much success adjusting them.

    You must screw it IN more to LIMIT how far towards the spokes it can go. Look at it...

    Also, if you do it yourself, get the right sized...

    Also, if you do it yourself, get the right sized spoke wrench. One that is slightly loose (too big) can strip the nipples, rendering them useless for adjusting.
