I slide a screwdriver under the grip and spray some water in, repeat in a different area if needed and twist them off.
559 is the diameter and 54 - 55 is the width, so it should fit.

Your front derailer could be bent, out of alignment with the chainrings, or the cable may have slipped.

Have you checked that you connected the wires with the correct polarity and there are no short circuits?

Hanging from the wheels wont harm the wheels or the frame, but if you have a fork with oil, some may leak past the seals.
