If the spoke is the proper length, the head supports the spoke and the barrel of the nipple is along for the ride.
I tend to add specialized tools as I need them.
For a basic set, I'd get-
Metric wrenches from about 4-17MM.
I set open end and 1 set box end. That gives 2 of each size.
1 set of hex wrenches 4-8...
If it tightened by pedaling, what would be the point of a fixing bolt?
You're confusing Free Wheels & Free Hubs.
You might reserve the term "pie plate" for the spoke protector and the largest cog as the largest cog.
Some older spoke protectors are noticeably larger than the largest cog.
Pie plates don't have...
Maybe they ordered 4,583,882,139 of them and the bin isn't empty yet?
I apply PO a few times in the preceding day before attempted removal.
I haven't done a lot of cotters, but so far my C clamp and an old rear axle spacer have worked.
IF your shifter is showing 9 and the chain is on 8...............
One thing I don't see mentioned is tire pressure & your weight.
IF you have the front tire pumped to max, it may be too hard, which will transmit more "road buzz" to your hands.
I don't see where you specified the number of "speeds" that your chain is.
IF 8 or less, you can push the pin back. 9 or more, you risk failure doing that.
Quick links are make servicing the...
Tighten it tight enough ONCE.
Is the SRAM hub a dynamo hub like the Shutter?
Does it have the same spoke hole diameter? 52 or 58mm diameter????
Just go to a "Power Transmission" shop. The kind that sells industrial hydraulic pumps, hoses, bearings etc.
You'll have to buy a box.
You buy the BB to fit the crank used. Not the other way around.
You probably don't want a 15mm axle???
Google "cartridge bearing"
Different from loose ball/cone.
You haven't stated if the rear is 130 or 135mm spacing.
One problem is the threads will likely be corroded to some extent and you can't get a good "feel" of the tension.
I'd recommend you get a metal bristle brush and clean the spoke threads and use new,...
Look for a METRIC rim size on the tire.
26X1-3/8" came in 590 & 597MM diameters.
590 is MUCH more common, but Schwinn used a 597MM.
That 7MM difference makes nearly 1" on the circumference. (about...
Since you have disc brakes, you don't have to worry about keeping a similar width rim to match up with V brakes.
I put skinny rims on my hybrid and had to add a lot of spacers to move the pads...
Did you use steel wheels or aluminum?
Steel has poor braking.
If you bent the RDER over 90*, you can pretty much count on having to replace it.
They just don't bend back correctly.

I definitely wouldn't ride it until serviced.
It might make the difference in cost between a bit of grease & new bearing balls vs a new hub and wheel rebuild.
A lock ring removal tool should only...
There's about 2.2 turns per MM, so it sounds like you are bottomed out. (56 TPI)
My experience is with DT spokes & nipples,so there might be a slight difference with Wheelsmith.
Good info here too-
