You didn't say whether you needed to carry stuff. But the Brompton is great at carrying stuff too.

For a 9 mile ride, I would definitely test ride the bike, though. Ergonomics are important...

My kids recently started with 20" tires. To celebrate the occasion, I tested out some decent quality BMX tires that tend to be much less expensive. In short, if you're looking at wider tires, there...

What size tires can you fit on the S18? That will make a huge difference in comfort and very little difference in speed.

I'm not sure that a front derailer that can shift a 22-tooth jump. (I know Sheldon Brown did something like that) I imagine if you got it to work the shifting would be awkward.

    If it's a...

Fundamentally, a Bike Friday and a Brompton bike are good at different things. So it's not about the person. Rather it's about what they want to do with the bike. I know a few folks that have a...

I understand the concern. But like the bike shop, I think it's largely theoretical given that there are derailer models that rarely suffer damage. This box looks tiny.

Hmmmm ... why are you looking for a folding bike?

My quick take is that someone that really wants a Brompton won't be happy with a Bike Friday and vice versa.

That said, if you want to try...

So I just googled it ...

Amazon has a rd 800-ss and a rd 800-gs. The pictures are the same but I suppose that there are two versions.

I've never seen one in person. I've never heard of a long Capreo derailer. Is it designed for doubles and triples in the front?

Your best bet in the US is with Velocity or Bike Friday. I'm pretty sure that Bike Friday will have some 24-spoke 349 rims around for their tikits.

I've always found rotating the crank backward helpful when folding or storing a bike. (I think a lever+brake is typically lighter than a coaster brake but I've never checked carefully) I weakly...

Indeed. But if you're looking for significantly more than a 300% gear range, what other options do you have?

If you have a Brompton with 6 speeds, you could modify it with different cogs to...

Doesn't that sound too narrow for a Nexus 8? I thought it has a little more than a 300% gear range. That must be a typo for 28".

I think you want relatively wide gearing then. You might think...

I would carry more weight on the front wheel instead of the rear. So a pannier or basket in the front rather than the rear should slow down the steering and take advantage of the low trail geometry....
