Did a Thanksgiving ride over Pine Mountain in Marin this morning. Pancakes and Irish coffee at the top. Then, the descent down Repack :)

Electrical tape. Two or three layers around your plug before you fit it in. Should fit firmly and end all problems.

    Late 80s/early 90s.
Trek was definitely using oversize tubing and garish design by 2000.

From the catalogs, looks like the 2000 was the top-of-the-line aluminum model from '87, equipped with full...

This is all I saw at first, and I was ready to kill you. :twitchy:
    Thankfully, I "measure twice."

Good luck with that, those are some of my favorite bikes.

Found that same bike in a champagne color in very good condition outside my friend's house a couple months ago.

That was a good day. :D
    It was too small though.

Oh man, I love those circular cutouts...
Was the Tipo the only model that had them at that time? I know there were F.B. made Campy hubs that had circular cutouts but those were much earlier (1940s?).

Woohoo Putney! I was born in Brattleboro, but I'm 16 now so we probably didn't know each other. :D

    Trek 1000 Magic Gear

I have an '89 Trek 1000 frame that I'd like to do a SS/FG conversion with, but it's got vertical dropouts. Don't have enough money for an ENO Eccentric, so I'd like to find the "magic gear," if at...

  14. C-Record Brake Levers - Sprung or not?

I have a pair of used C-Record levers that I want to sell, so I was wondering if they were built with a return spring or not.
If they were, the springs in mine must be broken because there is no...

I'm not sure there is such thing as an 8-speed freewheel.
I think by that time all wheels had switched to freehubs, so you may have to get a new wheel or settle for seven speeds.

    Mystery Hubs

On my '89 Trek 1000, I have some Matrix ISO C-IIs laced to a set of unmarked, unidentifiable hubs.
My initial guess was that these were just the generic factory hubs that came with the Matrix...

I can't imagine the Dura Ace is original, on a bike with an original Sugino Maxy crankset, or on a Nishiki in general. I'd guess that the Suntour came with the bike and the Dura Ace, saddle, and...

Yes, you'll need a new set of wheels with a freehub that will accept a ten speed cassette (as opposed to the threaded freewheel that's probably on there now).

I can almost guarantee that those are 105 cranks, and as the DT shifters and brake levers look Shimano as well, I'd guess the whole bike is 105.
