I would suggest that you join one of the many teams. If your company doesn't have one, most of the local bike shops do. Look for a team that has a training program. A road bike is not necessary,...
Don't remember what our gearing is (standard Santana), but I have found changing to OOP from IP has greatly helped our low speed stability when climbing.
http://bikebarn.com/ rents. Houston is a big place, what side will you be staying?
Try Bike Barn, www.bikebarn.com
Sure looks like the 10" disk I have on my Santana.
Our Santana came with the winzip and I never could get it to adjust without rattling or stopping well. Found the correct Avid adaptor and kept the 10" rotor and booster. No long decents yet, it's...
Sounds like fun. Let us know how you did.
I'd suggest driving to Fulshear and ride the Pool Hill loop or the Winne-Foster loop see map licked below. Park in the car-pool parking lot.
I made the conversion from the winzip to the mtn not knowing the difference (I wanted the black) left the 10" rotor on and works great. I do have a advance gizmo that came with the stock bike.
I know you can get fit at the Bike Barn on Mason Rd. Mine took some time and was well worth it.
Wow, I can get on at work again! Thanks, good to be back.
• When did you start? [/B]
• What made you want to try a bicycle built for two?
A friend lent us his so my daughter and I could ride in the Bike-to-Beach MS150
• What was your...
I agree that Ric and Marica are great to work with and they have a very nice selection to choose from.
Also remember that the use of the S&S couplers allow the bike to be broken into smaller parts that fit well into a smaller car, i.e. you don't always fully break the bike into the cases.
Switched out the Santana Winzip to the mtn BB7 this weekend and wow what a difference! I did keep the travel agent. I now have brakes that I am happy with.
So, just what is the difference...
When we ride our singles together, we ride at her pace, on the tandem I can push as hard as I like. On the singles we will ride a maximum of 20 miles, on the tandem we can do a century.
1. We are slow, 14.2 mph for the 100m course, we like to start early so we finish before they close the course.
2. Our "hotel" is half a block from the course, about two miles into...
We started early, and when the "clear the way" vehicles came by we pulled over and watched the racers go by. After that we stay to the right as faster riders go by.
We will probably do the same...
Finished my wife's first real century Saturday in the HHH. No pacing, 100 miles, 7 hours. Max speed 31 mph.
Slow but steady.
Try getting one at your LBS, probably just give it to you from the bikes they have removed them from. I use one on our tandem because I can't see the gears that far back.
