    Are road bikes much faster than touring bikes?

    A touring bike with racks, fenders and lights may well be much faster than a pure road bike... the logic being that the touring bike will be ridden all year, in all weather, carrying loads...

    What's your preference for touring bike shifters?

    I'm an apprentice Rockstar. When I'm (soon) rich and famous I plan on touring (venues) on a Di2 bike... Will report back as to shifting... :D

    Very very occasionally I'll have to take the bus or tram in my home town. I'm not too comfortable being packed in a tin can with so many people... Hoodie up, sunglasses on and headphones on... Nobody...

    Great advice above. I'll just second that high speed wobble can come unexpectedly and can literally throw you off the bike.
    If you're unsure, get an LBS mechanic to check the bike out.
