My bike is heavier than yourn.
Bmx-lookin' mtb tires.
Wide, slow, and heavy.
That's what i've been running lately.
With a heavy load, I was trashing tires at an alarming rate on my road bike, riding...
Looks good. I look at my old trek road bike and realize how far upside down i am in it...:)
It needs a paint job.
I'm roughly 600 dollars in the hole, if i tried to sell it.
Guess ill keep...
Cool. I won a gold dura ace 5 speed freewheel on ebay last year for a dollar and 36 cents. New old stock, of course.
Not wanting to spend 40 bucks on a tool, i sold the fw for 20 dollars.
I've wondered what effect adding weight to a wheel would have.
Say, 25 lbs, on the rim between 2 spokes.
Would it coast farther/require less energy to maintain cruising speed?
Homebrew, I just had a similar issue. I agree with Bill.
In my case, 26/36/46,
the L screw was just a bit tight. I could shift with zero chain tension, i.e. on completely flat ground. I...
Just figured out how to quote in mobile view...maybe.
Sounds good to me. Viable, local support. Go for it.
Yeah, 400 was a ton of money. It was nice.
But, 400 bucks and several years of riding...it worked out.
They were well-made pieces of machinery.
That year the color was electric pink/chrome....
Then, in 5th/6th grade, along came a trek 800 mtb.
Freedom. 60 mile days. Town to town.
All over several counties.
Sold it on my way out west for gas money when i was 16. Sold my...
It's funny. I also have a mongoose mtb, one of the "good" lbs ones. Paid 5 bucks for it at a junk store.
I remember my first good bike i got for christmas in 1987.
It was a mongoose decade pro...
Howdy, t x. I, too, own a good one from walmart. Bought it at the flea market for my wife.
Functionally, well, it goes. I'd ride a hundred miles on it if I needed to.
I know an authorized Schwinn dealer here in TN. been in business for ages. He stays covered up in repairs, and he sells used bikes on the floor, many being very nice vintage Schwinn restorations and...
No clue on the shipping. I've never ordered from them.
Yeah, I saw that after I posted. The zicral's in stock for 31 dollars.
As for 110 rings, I don't know yet. I have 26/36/46, so a 40 would half-step it. 38 or 39 with a 42 would work out, too.
I agree with ThermionicScott.
And i'd add that some rings are stepped outboard, some are stepped inboard, and ring thickness may vary.
So...maybe order the ring, and go to niagara cycle and...
Heard that. I run 6 or 7 speed on everything right now.
So far, so good, mileage-wise.
i had a downtube shifter come apart while my road bike was in my dad's trunk.
The trunk lid bouncing...
Thank you, sch. That knowledge is quite useful to me.
Brifters seem a little pricey for 2000 miles.
Less than a coast to coast tour.
And make sure your brakes aren't dragging. :)
Maybe lube your chain, check tire pressure, see if you need to overhaul/grease wheel bearings and bottom bracket.
Park tool has a good repair section online.
Long, shallow descents.
That's where i have played around with gearing and found higher gears to benefit.
Like the difference between a 52/12 and a 52/13.
Couldn't quite accelerate past 40...
Heard that, Fastfingaz.I can use up at least a half gallon making coffee and cooking. Then, 2 bottles on a hot day goes quickly sometimes.
Just depends. Up in the mountains, it's easy enough to...
Biker86, hey there!
I use a 1/2 gallon army canteen on the front rack and 2 24 oz water bottles in the cages.
Clothes: blue jeans, cowboy boots, regular drawers, cycling jersey, cycling cap.
He could have ripped the rd plum off the frame doing that. Maybe. You never know.
The silly goose.
I also use a double front derailleur, sized for 52/42 on my mtb with a triple. If your front shifter is friction, there's a lot of leeway for sure. Worth a shot.
I run a 9 speed Campagnolo crank with a 7 speed freewheel and a KMC 7/8 speed chain...the Z51 model.
52/42/26 crank. 13-28 or 13-21 freewheel. It works fine for me.
In the past, i've run a tz20...
