Have a look at GT Grade. I like the first 105 Alloy model so much, I went and bought the Ultegra carbon model as well. It's easy to put a rear rack on the Alloy mo0del, to turn it into a light...

This seems to be the most practical route. Thank you very much Barrettscv. I wonder if compact Ultegra chain ring 34T is available for this crankset seperately? I'd like to go lower than...
  6. Can I replace GT GradeAlloy 50-34 crank set with Shimano XT M8000 double crank set?

I don't need high speed, and would rather trade for lower garing. The bike is Grade Alloy 105 - EnduRoad - Road - Bikes With 105 50-34 crank set. I'd be much happier with Shimano XT M8000 double...

I heartily concur. I'm all for STI shifters, but can accept trigger shifters. But I just don't like mtb handle bars. I too used to ride BSA Hornet and Starfire

For long tour, I prefer around 100km.(62.5miles) per day, ending my ride around noon. The longest ride I've done is 198km.(about 125miles) for the day. That was on a SAG 5 days tour on road bike....

Thanks for all helpful advices, particularly from briwasson. Would early September be better than the latter part of the month? I can easily accommodate either.

  12. Salzburg to Vienna : What would be best time to do it?

I'm contemplating this trip next year, and am open to any date or schedule. Priority would be dry days with clear sky. Next would be ease of finding accommodation. Therefore, not tourist season. ...

I think the bottom holes near the dropouts will take on the rear rack mount quite well. However, for the top rack attachment, I'd use seat post clamp with rack mount. This is what I have.

I concur. I can go 46-30front with 10 speed, but I'd rather remain with 50-34 11 speed crankset. With my 10 speed road bike, I can climb most hills with 34-24 combination, and the 27t largest cog...
