That's actually the only failure I've personally heard of. But it's very common for cracks to form at the juncture between the spider and the arm.

Here's Jobst Brandt on the matter! Crank...

Thanks for your help. Is the problem that both cup and cone are compromised? There are machine shops in the area.

Appreciate it, but the titanium version is built for 1/8" ball bearings.

This one is definitely Italian built. Gipiemme dropouts, metallic orange in color.

  9. 1981 Palo Alto frame with bonus Jobst Brandt story; OR the little joys of this hobby

A couple of months back I purchased a beautiful Palo Alto from the original owner, a gentleman in Silicon Valley. It was a pretty good deal, with extra parts thrown in and so on. But the real treat...

Bump! Repacking with grease and forgetting about it has a clear lead, but the sample size is still quite small (N=5).
  11. Poll: POLL! What to do About a Pitted Super Record Pedal Race?

    Hi All,

I have a super record titanium pedal here with a pitted cup. It's mostly in one area, about 1cm long. Pits don't appear very deep. It's in the top right section of the cup in this picture:...

The reason being that they use aero brake levers, right?

I recently picked up a pair of titanium pedals on eBay. It was a pretty good deal, and I'd like to keep them. However, one of the titanium spindles has a very small pit. It will probably...
