Thanks to all for your comments and info. I will pass this along and post the experience my friend has with his girlfriend.
A friend of mine told me he and his girlfriend were interested in riding a tandem, but she never learned how to ride a (single) bike. My stoker is very comfortable riding a single bike. Does anyone...
We are currently using the Kenda Kwest 26x1.6. Rated at 100psi but on the road, run them at 115. We do both road and crushed gravel/limestone trails. It seems to roll well. Just blew the rear tire...
There are many rides in the Raleigh, NC area. Check out www.ncbikeclub.org and their cue sheet page http://www.ncbikeclub.org/queue_sheets/ncbcqueue.htm. Anything in and around the lakes in the...
We have ridden a Santana Fusion (Enduro version of the Arriva) for 10 years. Very durable and comfortable. Not quite as fast as the skinny tire tandems, but we can go where others fear to tread :)
Ditto!!!
And a few more - Captain to Stoker:
Sorry - after hitting a bump the captain didn't see (usually in low light conditions) or after pinch - no matter what the reason
Duck - captain is...
Riding together
We enjoy every moment
Synchronicity
• When did you start?
yr 2000
• What made you want to try a bicycle built for two?
The wife and I had were looking for a) something we could do to spend more time together, and 2) some way for...
We haven't mastered dual standing yet (too wobbly) so we alternate - one standing at a time. Seems to work OK and get's us up some short steeps.
If you are planning on doing a lot of loaded touring and some dirt or gravel roads, consider a 26x1.25 or 26x1.5. You get a nice comfortable ride and some pretty durable tires in this width.
Hey Mono.... We ride both road and gravel and have been very happy with the Avocet Cross II 26 x 1.5 Kevlar - long wearing, comfortable, and durable. I think they make a 1.25 as well but have not...
I suggest looking for schools for the VI. One of the captains in this area arranged with their recreation/athletic director for us to ride with students at the school. During warm weather, we will...
My stoker has used the PivotPlus for many years and is very happy with it once it is adjusted properly. The pins wear out after a while. I contacted Tamer - they had me ship it back and they...
Anyone know where I can find jerseys with matching patterns that are made in both male and female sizes/cuts?
In the spirit of your survey, a remark made by a stoker about why she rides a tandem, "....because I always have my mechanic with me...."
Congrats on your first ride. My wife and I were riding with 2 other tandem teams on a 35 miler on Sunday and blew by a group of singles in a pace line - their jaws dropped. The singles were doing...
I've ridden LongBoat Key and Lido Key. Both have bike lanes on the main roads (except for St. Armond's circle between the two). The bike lanes were in good shape last summer. Both are suitable for...
How high above the recommended pressure can/should one go with a tandem tire? We run 26x1.5 Avocet Cross IIs w/ Kevlar belt on a Santana Fusion. About half of our rides are on crushed limestone...
My stoker and I are considering riding in some local rides to raise funds for charities. First the dumb question: do we enter as 1 bike or as 2 riders? The registration websites don't include...
Have enjoyed the pics..... We're riding past a farm in NC.
I agree with SU. Get her on a tandem and enjoy it together. It doesn't matter whether your output is 50:50 or 70:30 - you'll always be together - and that's the great part about it.
We've been riding for a few years and have been happy to just sit and peddle. We've tried both standing up at the same time without much success. We occasionally alternate with only one...
Rock-n-roll Gold - We ride half on road and half on crushed limestone. Limestone dust gets everywhere and once the Rock-n-Roll Gold dries, it doesn't attract dust. Easy to apply and lasts a long...
I emailed Santana - no reply yet. They've been putting FIRs on their bike's for a long time - I expect they will be biased towards what they supply. I may call them on Monday.
I have a Santana Fusion that came with Hadley hubs and 26" FIR rims. One rim popped at a seam after 3 years and the second just went a year later. I run the Avocet Cross II (26x1.5) which I fine a...
