I started off with 48x17, then 48x19, and now 46x17. 46x17 is my happy medium for tackling just about any hill and doing longer road rides fixed with a couple of climbs.

It was a real pita to get tires on and off my wabi wheels. Both the stock kendas and new conti gp4000s. Had to result to using the mavic tool.

Interesting...I thought that the thinner walls alone would have made the Spirit tubing much easier to dent. The other frame in 725 also had lugs, which is likely why there's a ~1.3lbs difference....
  4. Columbus Spirit and Reynolds 725 Durability

How much durability am I sacrificing by going from 725 to Spirit?

I'm looking for my first steel frame, and of course would like something light and stiff. However, I've read a lot about Spirit...

Lots of great info in this thread, and a real inspiring read about Octupus's FG climbing adventures. Wow. I'd be pretty happy if I were able to accomplish something like that on my geared road bike,...

I hear ya. I run a 48x19 for commuting around town, but have a 17 on the other side for more up tempo rides. I don't expect to hang with a group once they start bumping up the pacelines, but do have...

Can anyone tell me more about the differences between the Tricross and Wabi frames? Do I get any advantages with one vs. the other?

Good points. In fact, while my dream may be to take a FG on group rides, I'm really just looking for a fast fixed bike to take on longer, mostly solo, rides. On flats, it definitely feels like it...
  12. Fixed for road training - what's holding me back?

I have a Specialized Tricross fixed gear that I use for commuting. However, I enjoy riding fixed so much, that I like taking my FG on my usual road rides. Only problem is that I am noticeably slower...

To clarify: is Columbus Spirit more prone to dents and damage than Reynolds 725? Are both definitely more damage resistant than a basic aluminum frame?

Reynolds 725 vs. Columbus Spirit OS

How do the two compare? Thinking about a new FG bike that I'd use for road training as well as around town commuting. Are both durable enough for everyday use, being locked up, and put next to other...

Well for the non-Lightning folk, what are the thoughts on the Classic vs. Special? Are the lugs on the Special worth the $200 price increase?

Finally had a chance to take the new wheels out on a few rides this weekend and am impressed.

    - These wheels feel much stiffer than my old Mavic K-10s. Ride quality was noticeably firmer.

Man...really wish those K-10's survived. They were such great do-it-all wheels for me, as I do commute 2-3x/week 40-50mi one way on roads of mixed quality. I'm worried that I'll have to keep truing...

Wow that's light! This does have me concerned with my set of 20/28 since I'm quite a bit heavier at 160lbs. and you're already running a beefier combo of 24/28.

    I'm just shy of 160lbs.

If these wheels are lighter than my Mavic K10's, and about half as expensive, what advantages do the K10's have over them? Durability?
