"it's probably in the dog's poop!" is what my 9 year old tells us when we're missing something.
She's usually right.
For the life of me I can't remember where, but I'm sure I saw a catalog or a tech manual or something similar that stated the brake cables could be routed aero or non-aero on original 8 speed ergos. ...
Retrofrictions will pull across 8 cogs. It's just that on the lowest cog the right lever is pretty near parallel to the ground.

Part #10 looks like the cable clamp washer (for lack of a better term), it goes on the cable clamp bolt.
The toothed washer looks like a previous owner add-on for some...

OK. I will redouble my efforts to post the scan. It's a PDF and photobucket won't recognize the file on my pc.
I get back Monday and will work on it.

Pretty good info on the whole group, brake info on p 2.
I'm looking at an exploded diagram of the shifter. Between the fixing bolt and the plastic cap on the lever is a part Shimano calls the Front SIS Ring. It appears that it comes out and is...
"What's that leaning against your fence?"
My Franklin. Not vintage but maybe classic.
It's supposed to be the bike I would have had, had I been into this sort of thing back then.
