    Vegetarian in the woods

Uncooked garbanzos? I fear that may well cause massive methane emissions!

More seriously, I've never tried it, but met a guy who soaked rice in a bottle from morning, then ate it (uncooked)...

I like the Busch & Müller mirrors.
There are both short and long arm models. Very well made.

I have bar ends, so I have a long arm mirror attached to the handlebars directly under the left brake...

    Toe cage pedals

Yepp, toe-clips here on both my commuter and tourer.
MKS GR9 pedals and SKS plastic clips.
I ride in regular running shoes, so they're the only shoes I have on tour

Evening meal - Rice and a tin of beans

Enough of the above for three days isn't really that heavy. Add some trail mix for snacking on and...

    Three season, four season tent?

My Hilleberg Soulu has stood up to everything I've thrown at it, but there again I expect it to.
They are expensive, but you do get what you pay for.

I used to fly with both a bike and a guitar. Nowadays a guitar is too big as handbaggage (though some people still get away with one in a soft case).
I just buy a new guitar at destination and...

    travel bike airline charges

Before booking a flight go through the airlines baggage allowance meticulously... and as Machka said, even the flights that are "code shared".

My go-to for international flight is British Airways....

    Coast or pedal downhill?

I prefer to work hard up the hills and coast down. Kinda like interval training. Arguably better exercise than taking it gentler uphill and pedalling down.

On long rides I may even stand and...

  19. What practices do you follow when leaving your stuff exposed?

I hear ya, Walter S. If you think the risk is worth it, then I totally respect that :)
  20. What practices do you follow when leaving your stuff exposed?

What Machka said. An extra day to make it a roundtrip to a campsite where I can safely leave my bike and gear is worth it for peace of mind, imo.

If that isn't feasible, I'd skip the side trip.
  21. Best place to tour in Mid-September-Novemberish?

September is fantastic in France. Head south to Spain and Portugal for the winter sun.

I find www.wunderground.com/history great for planning

    Musical Instruments for Touring

I carry a full sized classical guitar previously in a hard case, but now with soft cases.
Due to airline baggage rules I now buy a new guitar at destination and give it away at the end of the trip....
