Panaracer T-serv Protex tires I find do very well in flat protection. They come in 25,28, & 32 sizes.

PCS-9 looks like a good deal--under $100 on Amazon. Building your own isn't cost effective unless you already have all the tools. Bike stands are cheaper than welders.

Wear sunscreen, light wicking clothing, and a Camelbak. Austin heat is the dry heat so sunscreen and staying hydrated are most important.

I miss Austin--great city. Have a good ride.

Yeah, there's a good chance the skateboard thing may go that way, too.

Maybe in a week I'll lose all interest. This downtime just has my mind spinning for things to do.

Well, since there's no chance of looking cool while skateboarding at my age, it really doesn't matter what the skateboard looks like =)

I've got lots of pads still from my rollerblading days.

  12. Need a skateboard for my mid-life crisis

Being that I'm over-the-hill now and currently lamenting opportunities missed and chances forgotten in my formative years, I'm considering learning to skateboard. What's a decent skateboard cost at a...

I have a filter on the tap. I'll fill up a bottle if I think about it. But quite often I'm out and about when I want water, so I'll just buy a bottle at a gas station. Some folks seem to think it's...

    Flat pedals suggestions

I'm currently running Shimano PD-M324's. I'd like something similar in shape and design, but that are just flats--no straps or cages either.

The new Raleigh Grand Prix has a nice vintage look to it. I saw it over at REI the other day and it made me do a double take. I think it's just over $1000.

I'd get the new crankset. Getting them perfectly straight will be a challenge, and every time you bend metal, there's fatigue (some metals a lot more than others).

Are you talking about cage length? That's usually entirely dependent on chain wrap capacity. Sometimes the largest rear cog is a limiting factor, though.

I'm thinking of putting an Alfine on my single speed. But I may miss the bee's nest buzz of the freewheel.

I've never built a wheel which means I'm going to need to find someone else to do it....
