    I found this aphorism regarding basic tools jotted in the page margin of a radio service manual from my long-ago Motorola days. I translated it to english, so I hope it makes sense:

    "An open-end adjustable wrench makes a better hammer than a hammer makes an open-end adjustable wrench."

    So, if you only have money for ONE tool, you now know which one to buy.

    Never use pliers where a wrench is intended.

    Always grease your threads never grease your,(BB spindle), flats.

    A tool I am never without is my pocket comb. After using "irons" to pry my tire off the rim when changing a flat, I stick my comb in there and "zzzzzip," off comes the tire. My comb is very gentle to my tire beads.

    And I really like those jazzy dark streaks in my hair...

    The best tool in terms of cost of tool/cost of damage tool can do if used incorrectly just has to be a little plastic spoke key.
