USD$1000 for a 2002 Bianchi Axis: did I get a good deal?

hey guys,

I tend to do shopping therapy. that bad date recently? the second I got home I hit the online shopping sites. when I spent a fortune in New Orleans at my buddy's bachelor party? got a new computer.

you see how it goes.

so I just closed on my new house today (yesterday morning, actually; tonight was another long story, but anyway) and I'm a little conflicted. so I went to the LBS where I test rode the owner's personal Bianchi Axis. he intimated that he might be persuaded to make a deal on it, so, long story short, I got a 2002 Bianchi Axis for USD$1000. I figure being owned by the (competitive) owner of a LBS is better than being owned by a little old lady who only drove it to church on Sundays. it looks fantastic to my inexperienced eyes.

whaddya think? good deal or no? (apologies if this post isn't very coherent; I'm also on the phone as I'm typing this.)

man, you know, I really need to get a small digital camera to throw in my wedge bag. so, no pics.

the only owner upgrades are a new bottom bracket, a coupla bottle cages, and a colnago end cap for the left end of the drop bars (musta lost one somewhere.) otherwise, it's stock.

I think I'm pretty happy with it. I mean, I haven't even really taken it out yet.

I took my new cx bike out on the first real ride yesterday, that sucker worked me man. There is this sharp 3 mile gravel road climb right in the middle that I've only done on a mt bike - felt good to be challenged.

Rotifer, what kind of bike did you get?

Jack... the 2002 Axis sold/sells for $1200-$1500, so if it was in tip-top shape, you got a pretty good deal.

A cyclocross bike is happiest on dirt. You owe it to your new steeds to take them out when the dirt is all much and mushy and squidgy. Run the tires down around 55-60 [if they're clinchers], and have a blast!

I bought a 2001 Redline Conquest Pro that had been upgraded with Ultegra, Salsa Bell Lap bar, Race Face rings, King Headset, Time pedals and Mavic Open Pro/Ultegra wheels -$850.00. It seemed like a good deal.
