I recently met a guy who has a tandem and we went for a ride today. It was great! Being the stoker, I didn't know if I would be able to give up control. He is an experienced captain so I had no problem following his lead.
When riding solo I clip in first with my left foot, he is the opposite so I had to change to match him. At first it felt odd, but I got used to it.
The only big problem is that I like to ride the drops sometimes, which I couldn't do on the tandem or my nose would have been in his butt. I also didn't feel comfortable reaching down for my water bottle. Next time I'll have to take my camel back.
We rode very well together for the first time. I'm hoping the weather holds and we can get in a few more rides before the snow flies.
Yes, I know what you mean about being in the drops. My wife likes to stay in the drops non-stop all day. I can feel her rest her head on my back at times. This can be annoying to the captain as well, just have to learn to deal with the diff's of a tandem. At this time I'd have to say our tandem is the best investment I've ever made.
