I rode the suncoast trail (portion) last Saturday, and the Upper Tampa Bay Trail isn't that far away. I'm always down for some riding.

Ream Wilson Trail? Never heard of it.
It's a bit shorter than some of the other trails in the area, but very well done.

I'm in Sarasota. My next ride will be the 2.2 mile section of the old Seven Mile Bridge in the Florida Keys, where the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico connect. This is going to be a great photo and video-op.
Will be going to the Destin/ Fort Walton beach ares September 10-17th from Houston. How is the riding around there. We will be driving so we could bring our road bikes. We like to ride 30-50 mile rides at a 17 to 18mph. Dont know much about the area. Is it worth hauling our bikes? Any charity rides going on at that time? Thanks for the help.
Rode the TECO-Auburndale Trail about a week ago. It links up with the Van Fleet Trail. It isn't as rural as the Van Fleet but makes a fine addition to the Van Fleet. http://neccfl.com/wordpress/2011/08/...ounty-florida/
I rode the Skyway Trail. The trail itself is only 2.5 miles long but, if you leave from Maximo Park in southern St. Petersburg and include a trip out to the North Skyway Fishing Pier, it ends up being around 11 miles round trip. You can read my travelogue here: http://neccfl.com/wordpress/2011/08/...ounty-florida/

It looks like the Skyway Trail could be combined with Fort De Soto if there is a safe way to get from one to the other.
We wish there was a safe way to ride to Ft. De Soto from Gulfport.
37th St. S goes from Maximo up to 22 Ave. S. Once you get past the post office on 22 ave you can cut over to side streets. 37th St. S. is not a bad road for cars, they all want to take 34th St and we all know what 34 st is!
I used to live in Gulfport, actually was raised there. Spent our days growing up fishing, crabbing, clamming, netting bait fish, and all that bayou stuff. We were gone from 8:00 in the mornings and would not come home until dark.
Anyway, riding to Ft. DeSoto is pretty much not worth the attempt in my book. Too many rednecks boozing it up although the boulevard through Tierra Verde is very wide and safe. I used to throw bike in truck and drive to Ft. DeSoto and ride the 16 mile trail. Quite a diverse trail.
My web hoster decided to upgrade my site and deleted my last post. Here is the new link to the recreated post: http://neccfl.com/wordpress/2011/09/...ounty-florida/

Did the Fort Fraser Trail from Bartow to Lakeland and back this morning. 15.5 miles - beautiful ride and the trail is well done. If you want to see some pics of the trail - http://neccfl.com/wordpress/2011/09/...ounty-florida/

Keep this up and, after a while, you'll have a much needed Florida trails guide book.
@wfin2004 - unfortunately I lost your comment when my web hoster decided to upgrade my site and I lost the posting and had to recreate it. I rode the Venetian Waterway Trail yesterday (south of Sarasota in Venice). It is another fine trail - check out the pics http://neccfl.com/wordpress/2011/09/...ounty-florida/
BTW - could someone down Sarasota way post here when the overpass at Highway 41 is open? I would love to do the Legacy Trail but I'm waiting for the overpass to open.

Rode the southern portion of the Suncoast Trail over the weekend and went through the Starkey Wilderness Trail. Check out the pics here: http://www.neccfl.com/wordpress/2011...nties-florida/
I was fortunate enough to catch two bucks feeding alongside the trail! Enjoyed the Starkey Trail much more than the Suncoast but that is just my opinion. :-)
Enjoy! ~ Happy Trails ~ John
The Starkey Wilderness Park and the Suncoast section is one of my favorite rides. That low swampy area in Starkey has been ridden by me more than once through a foot of water.
Did you notice the overpass that over passes nothing? It will be the extension of Ridge Road in the future. It is a shame that Ridge Road could plow over all that wilderness one day.
