    w00t! first in NorCal!

OK to keep it on topic: if you're in the San Jose/Campbell/Cupertino area and want to get together for a ride some time, PM me. I like to ride hills. For purposes of comparison (but certainly not gloating as you can see), my PRs are: Montebello: 37:30, OLH: 22:14, hoping to improve those by a few minutes each.

yikes, 22 minutes up OLH. My best is 35' and change. We definately should get some group rides going on, those socal folks are making us look bad.

'nother and I know each other. I lead a ride that he sometimes goes on. platypus came along at least once, IIRC. My best time up OLH is either 22:45 or 21:45. I was pretty delirious when I got to the top.

On another note please read the following article and complete the survey:

I've been envious of the SoCal guys having all that fun. I'd be up for getting together with the BF crew in the Bay Area. Anyone want to pick a route and a time?

I've been riding only for a year, my OLH time is 24:20, OK for a 51 year old near-Clydesdale.

Will check out the survey bit. I will add that SteveE is a sandbagger on his group rides. He blew past everyone on a sneak attack last Saturday

As such in the absence of actual BF-organized rides, I strongly recommend the Alto Velo 'B' ride. It would be cool to do an actual BF-"only" thing of some sort though. Guess we are slackers compared to those SoCal socialites.

Any Sacramento area people want to ride? Davis is great for biking, but I'm sort of intimidated by the massive local bike clubs. I'd be up for some weekend rides. I average anywhere from 17-19 mph by myself, depending on the distance. Most of my rides are 20-30 miles, but I've ridden up to 50. Cheers!

Since I'm new to the area and will be doing it for the first time in the next couple weeks, to be sure - what are you people using for time points up OLH?

Yep, I've gone on the AV B ride twice - I'm still not quite up to it.

From the bridge at the bottom up to Skyline.

On OLH, when the road surface turns to total poo, you've got about 500 meters to go so put the hammer down!

Yep. Some people insist it's "stop sign-to-mailboxes", but whatever ... we're talking 15 seconds difference or so. If you're planning to challenge Eric Heiden's record (just under 15 minutes) maybe you wanna get all official and nitpicky about where to stop and start, but for the rest of us mortals the bridge 'til you collapse onto your bike computer's "stop" button at the top is sufficient.

Hey I just moved to Davis from Fairfield. Looking for a new road bike right now (I've never owned one). I recently bought a new MTB hardtail. Going to Rockville today!!! I know what you mean about all the clubs in the area. My experience at one particular LBS has totally turned me off from buying from them. They seem to care more about their own clubmates than a small time biker like myself. One day I'll spin circles around them suckers.

Hopefully I can find the right deal on a new bike soon. Maybe we can hook up for a ride sometime.

Sounds good, Ryan. Let me know when you get your road bike.

Have you tried going to Ken's Bike and Ski (on G street)? They're probably my favorite LBS. Super nice people there and very helpful. I didn't actually buy my bike there (a bike from elsewhere fit better), but I usually go to them for other stuff. You can rent skis from there for cheap too.

Ken's is awesome. I went there the other day (actually Ken was the guy that helped me). They didn't have the right frame size for a test ride though. I was interested in the Raleigh Cadent, and supposedly they are putting a bike together just for me to test ride. I'm still not sure what I want though. I also went to the Giant/Trek dealer (not sure of the name). They were very helpful and nice, although they did not measure me for a fit. I test rode the Trek 1000 and the Giant OCR 1 there. The shop that I'm not too thrilled about is the Specialized/Felt/Cannondale dealer across the street. They always seem too busy with the bigshots to help out a guy in street clothes. They wouldn't even take time to fit me. C'mon, do you want to sell a bike or not? I will take my business elsewhere.

I think I'm going to make a trip to Sac and take a look at Mike's Bike's. I want to try the Specialized Allez Sport before I make a final decision. Hopefully I get something soon. How do you like the Trek 1500? I like that one but slightly out of my price range. Right now the front runner is the Giant OCR 2.

Hey do you ever ride XC? That's one thing I miss about being in the Bay Area.... lots of hills/trails/etc. I do plan on exploring the foothills at some point though.

When Im off the injured list Im game for some rides. I have a fracture in my hip and cant ride, but soon as I get healed Im there. I think Im a mid 20's on OLH, Mt Hamilton in just under 2hrs with a fractured hip, Im not fast at all, not the best climber either but Im tall and near 200lbs, but I can ride decent and I love climbing. I also mt bike when I can ride.

A Bay Area BF ride would be awesome...

BUT I've only tried OLH once, and my time was just a tad under 39 mins. So I may not be up to par with you guys.

Hey steve, I've been on a lot of your rides, sat or sunday alike. We've met, but you don't know me on here... names ryan, usually wearing a willow glen bike shop jersey, just saying hi. I'll probably be there this sat/sun too.

'nother, what city are you in?? I ride pretty much everyday leaving from san jose, usually into los gatos via the los gatos creek trail, then into the hills.... I usually ride alone on mon,tues,thurs,fri... sometimes I go out to almaden, calero resivior area too.

We should setup a group ride soon.... olh>35n>canada rd.>kings>home type thing? depending on where the majority of us live... I'm willing to drive a bit to get to a good ride.

Hey, Ryan. I think I know who you are. Not sure about the jersey but you ride an old Lemond, right? I think either this Saturday or next we'll be doing a 100-ish mile B-ride. We did one two years ago and I guess it's time for another. I'll keep 'ya posted. Sunday ride's not mine but thanks anyway.

I'm in San José, west side...near the Winchester Mystery House, close to the Campbell border. I am pretty flexible on ride times as I work from home. Lots of times I ride mid-day ("long lunch" haha!), Friday (early) a.m. usually an informal group ride with some buddies.

Maybe send me a PM or something if you want to get a ride together...always good to meet new people!

I live in SF but as soon as I get a decent road bike I'd love to get out and ride with some other folks in the Bay Area. Another friend of mine just bought a road bike, too, transitioning from MB and I'm sure I could get him out there. I'm mid-40's and ride by myself all over Lake Merced, Great Highway, GG Park, and up over the hills near Laguna Honda. I've also done the Crystal Springs out and back down along the water a few times. 20 miles on my hard tail MB is about my limit at this point but once I plunk down the $$ on decent roadie I'll be in business. Keep me in mind for BF rides!
