Bikes: fixie with flipflop hub

hey...

do any of you guys volunteer for SOPO or the Atlanta Bicycle Coalition? I was interested in both those things and wondered if anyone else volunteered for them now or ever, and what they thought about it.

thanks

I volunteer at CommuniCycle. Some of the SOPO folks came over to help launch the Clarkston CommuniCycle location and seemed like decent folks. That's the best insight I have for you, though.

I used to work for ABC (2004-2007) before I retired. Volunteering for them could be stuffing envelopes, working a table at an event, doing bike surveys, or any number of things.
If it sounds like something you'd like to do, give it a shot.

Hey metro-Atlanta folks, I've come to the conclusion that I have too many projects and not enough time so if anyone wants a couple of old frames free to a good home just drop me a PM.

I have Maruishi RoadAce 303 Frame & Fork 25"
and the infamous Bridgstone Kabuki with the pressed aluminum lugs. 21"

Both free to anyone who would use them the Marusishi is in good shape, the Kabuki is pretty ugly but both would make a fine fixie or SS which was my plan when I picked them up at a garage sale but they've been sitting untouched for more than a year.

Bikes: Primary ride now a LOOK 585-Love it.

Hey Guys.
I've been lax...quick follow up to my post before Thanksgiving. I contacted as many people as I had email addresses for, made up a few quick maps and even T-shirts and started my own Thanksgiving Day ride. We had eleven people (with less than 24 hours notice) and perfect weather and got everybody home in time for the bird and the pie. Everyone indicated they wanted to do it again next year. Uh-Oh. A couple of pics at my facebook link.

Looks like you had a good time. Sorry I couldn't join you. We had friends from out of town for the day so I was stuck at home.

Just got an email from Mike at Intown Bicycles. He's adding Gunnar framesets to his lineup. Gotta love it.

I hope no one minds a little political action message (if y'all have a problem with it, let me know and I'll delete this post):

I received the following in my mailbox this morning from the National Complete Streets Coalition:

The U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation will consider an amendment offered by Alaska Senator Mark Begich on Wednesday morning to provide safe and adequate accommodations for all users in all federally-funded street projects. This means safer roads for everyone, including those who walk, bike, ride transit, or drive cars.

Your Senator is a member of this Committee, and we need you to voice your support TODAY for the Senator Begich amendment to S. 1950, "safety for motorized and nonmotorized users."

This is the first time in over six years that our federal representatives will take a vote on Complete Streets language -- take action now!
And the link referenced in the email was: https://org2.democracyinaction.org/o/...ction_KEY=9030

No one has posted here since Dec 13. Anyone riding or is it too cold and rainy?
I haven't been out since Christmas eve day. Maybe the wind won't be too brutal today and I can get out for a quick ride.

Too much rain.
Family in town.
Christmas and Christmas shopping.
And now cold.
I've been off since the 20th (use it or lose it) and haven't been able to get out. Its depressing.

The wind was too much yesterday and it looks like today will be windy (and cold) too. Can't ride tomorrow because I have yoga. That's another story. Friday is supposed to be warmer and only light wind.
Maybe I'll set up the KK Road Machine today and burn up the living room while I watch another episode of Luther.

Hope to ride tomorrow and Sunday. Will definitely set up the KK Road Machine for next week. Going to be way too cold (for me) to be outdoors.

I'm not looking forward to the cold either. And I have an appt with the folks at the Apple Store Genius Bar on Tuesday morning (brrrrrrr) to talk about iCloud. Do I really want to wander around outside in those temps???

Went out for a few miles today. Finally. Feels really good to have gotten out. I've been horribly slack with exercise during the holidays.

Which Apple Store? Lenox or Perimeter you can park in the deck, probably up close and sprint in to beat the cold. Shouldn't be too crowded on Tuesday.

Lenox. I'll probably freeze solid walking out the car in our carport.

Did my usual Stone Mtn ride today. Only did 2 laps. Riding every 5-6 days because of rain, wind, etc. really affects the leg strength and stamina.

A few miles is better than no miles. I had to ride on 01/01 hoping it will set the tone for the new year.

Good to hear from you jason.
You're doing better than me. Between the rain or wind or cool/cold temps I haven't been out yet this year. My last ride was on Dec 31. I've been on the trainer twice. Today is supposed to be "warm" so I'll take the Felt out for a spin.

I didn't read through all 53 pages but - - I am likely to move to Atlanta this summer to attend Emory. I currently live in Portland, OR and am searching places I can move that will be an easy transition, ha! Any thoughts on easy commutes to Emory, all while being a young, safe neighborhood, with great pubs, vegetarian food options, maybe a whole foods and backyards for my dog. Picky enough? Any advice is welcome, I would be willing to give up a few of those.

wow that was fun... not. Pea Soup fog is hairy to ride in. Left on my commute thinking hmm... little foggy this morning. got out aways and realized it was really really thick. like riding inside a ping pong ball. bad idea bad idea bad idea... thankfully I had no problem but it did take me alot longer as I had to truly slow down. Even a slow 10 MPH speeds I was out running the bike lights. hairy bit that.

Depends on your housing allowance. Around Emory is nice but expensive. Virginia-Highlands is a good area. Decatur is nice also but a bit farther.
