Hi Atlantans and such! I live way up on the north fringes o' the metro but ride the greenways and some of the roads up here. I'd really like to hook up with a cyclist or two and do some riding! There don't seem to be too many people up this way interested in the kind of riding I do. I'm glad to drive down to the city and ride around some place, maybe Decatur, maybe Silver Comet, whatever. I ride a touring-ish bike, and I'm not super fast nor super skilled. Just like to ride m'bike. Cheers!

Hi, folks! I haven't been posting here lately, but since I've recently upped my cycling mileage considerably, I thought it might be good to start posting again.
At the moment I'm living just over the Chattahoochee in south Cobb County, and have started mapping out various destinations (starting from near the intersection of Oakdale Road and Roberts Drive). The large roads near me are Veteran's Memorial/Hollowell Parkway, South Cobb Drive, Atlanta Road, the East-West Connector, and River View Road.
For utility cycling purposes I'm within moderate cycling distance of two Krogers, three Publix stores, two public library branches, a post office, a K-mart, and the Hamilton Holmes MARTA station. I'm also near the Silver Comet trail.
My goal is to get a good grasp of all the roads around here, along with the various stores and amenities (including the CCT). Tomorrow's big expedition is cycling to the Holmes MARTA station to shop at the Dekalb Farmer's Market. I may try a bicycle->CCT bus->train route sometime during the week.
I'd be interested in comparing notes with anyone who cycles over this way. I'll post routes to bikely.com as I settle on good routes.

I'll check out your link. Today I logged 48 miles, although a large portion of those miles were unintentional. I decided to do two errands. The first was a trip to the Dekalb Farmers Market (Oakdale Road to Veteran's Memorial to Hamilton Holmes, train to Avondale Station, Ponce De Leon to the Farmer's Market. The trip out went great, but on the return trip some sort of medical emergency at the Georgia State station stopped all trains between Candler Park and the GWCC station, so I wound up cycling through downtown. The second errand was less eventful. I had some library books to return, so I took them to the Lewis Ray branch on Oakdale Road. (Pretty much Oakdale Road all the way except for a dogleg at Highlands Parkway onto South Cobb Drive).

I just checked out your Strava page. You're correct. You're cycling on some of the same roads I use (River View, Maner, Plant Atkinson, Hollowell/Veteran's Memorial, Fulton Industrial, etc). At the moment I'm going on a lot more utility rides than training rides (the exception is when I do a combination cycle/run thing I do which takes me cycling through that hilly neighborhood between Buckner Road and Heritage Park. I ride there, do a little bit of the Silver Comet starting at Fontaine Road, run a little on the Heritage Park trail, then cycle back through the neighborhood). At 61 years old I don't see a lot of racing in my future, but I am trying to get my cycling mileage up.

try the Path Foundation site for the maps. You can indeed go from Five Points area all the way out to Stone Mountain. Need the maps as there are a couple dips/doodles that are not entirely obvious. Fun though.

There are several places in the L5P, east Decatur, and Avondale area where the path ends and you must take the neighborhood streets. Most places where this happens there is a sign letting the rider know that the street is part of the designated bike path/route.
Same thing happens in Clarkston in a couple of places for about a mile total.
If you ride out on a Saturday or Sunday morning you can "follow" the regular riders out to SM. They know the way.

There is no meeting place. Small groups ride from everywhere (east Decatur, Avondale, etc.). Just look for a group of roadies and they are most likely headed to SM.
Here's a group ride for Sunday.
Here's a group ride for Sunday.
9:00 am Stone Mountain Bike and Hike (Village Coffee Shop, Little Five Points)
The Stone Mountain Bike and Hike combines the joy of cycling from L5P to Stone Mountain with a hike up the mountain. The Bike and Hike is about 30 miles total on the bike done in two stages (there and back) and a 1.5 mile hike up the mountain and 1.5 miles coming down. ...Ride leader will ride with a trailer to carry walking shoes for the hike. So, come out, ride your bike to, and hike up Stone Mountain with us. The ride leaves from the Village Coffee Shop in Little Five Points at 9 AM, 420 Seminole Ave NE Atlanta, GA 30307. Closest MARTA station is Inman Park. After the ride, the group will reconvene at a local establishment for lunch. No ride if raining and helmets are required. For more information, visit our website Atlanta Bicycle Coalition, or email Tommy Lupo, or call (404)317-0289.

Here's the info listed on sadlebred.com.
Good luck.
Tucker Ride-Strenuous/Training. Meets at 9 am during DST and 10 am during Standard Time at Tucker High School on Lavista Road. Show what you are made of! Rides from Tucker to Stone Mountain and back. VERY fast paced training ride, 24 mph++. Terrain is hilly, and distance is about 43 miles. This is where the big boys and racers show up to play. Cue Sheet, Cue Sheet 2

I'm thinking of selling my SPD-SL pedals since I've switched to Speedplay. One pair is Ultegra, one pair is 105. Anyone interested before I put them on craigslist? PM me for pics and (cheap) price.

If tucker is 24+++ and you are no where near that I would look for one just slightly above your current level that way you are not by yourself after the 3-4 miles.

Hi Jason. I'll take pics and send you a PM. You know me. The price will be "cheap" for locals.

Newbie here from the East Cobb area just north of Atlanta. I will be looking for riding buddies after I get a little settled in on my bike. I just finished building it and while I run a lot, my legs are still too new to keep up with a group of riders. I plan on taking out to the silver comet trail soon to put in some slow long mileage. Happy riding!

I live in Lawrenceville but drive out to Silver Comet one to two times a week. I am a newbie to riding and have only been riding a few weeks. If either of you want to meet up send me a pm. I ride on Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays. I pace about 14MPH solo.

Anyone want some free bike stuff? I'm cleaning out, getting ready for the move to Florida (fingers crossed). I'm posting this here because I don't want to mail anything, even if someone wants to pay for shipping. I have the following. All items are used but in good condition.
25.4 mm Icon brand alloy road handlebar, 44 cm wide.
One pair of Eggbeater pedals with cleats.
One pair of Quattro road pedals with cleats.
One Vittoria Zaffro Pro, 700x25, black/white tire.
One Continental GP 4000, 700x23, black tire.
One Continental Grand Prix 4 Season, 700x23, black tire.
Two Specialized Pro III, 700x23, black/white tires.
Two Kenda Pro, 700x35, black cyclocross tires with tubes.
Send me a PM if interested.
Stay tuned. I may dig up more stuff.
theblackbullet picked up the tires today. Since no one else has shown any interest, everything else goes out with the trash tonight. Friday is trash pickup day.
