Yakima Tot Rod trailer REVIEW

Just bought a Yakima Tot Rod Trailer for our little one. Got it for $249 plus tax it was on clearance, $100 off.

Assembly was easy and it looks really nice. Tows real well also. We put the little guy in and went up and down the street a few times. Not bad. Plenty of room for toys and gear. It is a two person trailer with max weight at 100lbs.

Our son is a little too small yet (9months) he kept sliding down so I am hoping that in a month or so he will be able to ride comfortably.

Connection to the bike was simple and solid.

All in all I think it is a great trailer. It could have many uses like grocery shopping and maybe even some touring.

Have you not heard of duct tape? Just tape the kid in a upright position!

Honestly I'm sure in a short amount of time he will sit up no problem.

A little heads up here: some states limit the age a child can be in a bike or trailer to one year of age. Check before you continue on. I can say with certainity this is the case in Georgia.

Well its better than the behind the seat seat that I used with or first boy.. thats for sure I don't know haw many curbs I went off rattling the kids teeth (all 4 of them) each time.

Yeah, We called the Pediatrician and he said it would be best to wait until he is a year old. I am not sure of any law here in Ohio that states any minimum age requirements. Something to check into.

I modified a baby car seat to strap into a Burley trailer for our grand daughter. She went for yer first ride when she was about 2 months old. It doesn't look to me like it would be much different than riding in a car.

I know the sponsors of TOSRV, won't let a child under two years old on their rides citing safety concerns.

Speaking from experience, I disagree. Our daughter was in LAW (now League of American Bicyclists)Bulletin on a Christmas ride secure and snug in her carseat riding in a Cannondale Bugger in 1976.

I rode up until two days before she was born, and she started riding at about 2 months and cross country skiing with us at three months.

We adapted our Nordic Trak trailer for our granddaughter and her carseat. She didn't ride in it a lot, but it worked extremely successfully. She now at 23 months puts on her own helmet, and climbs in. We don't use the carseat in the trailer anymore.

Last week, my daughter had her in the trailer and heard a large vehicle behind her, it was a fire truck. One of the firefighters ran up and checked to make sure Annie was in a helmet, and told my daughter they would have given her one if she wasn't wearing a helmet. Poor Jeni thought maybe she was delaying them. I think they were watching Jeni, because she was exhausted when she came home do to a rigoous ride.

Our son and daughter both rode in the trailer together as they got older.

I forgot, I contacted the American Association of Pediatrics after learning that TOSRV wouldn't let us ride with our granddaughter until she was two . The AAP didn't know of any literature about this.
