Anyone have any idea when this is going to happen exactly?
Anyone have any idea when this is going to happen exactly?
As I hear stuff, I'll relay the information. I plan on secretly planning a race, so if this other one falls through, it'll still happen. Maybe. I don't know. I'll try to get back to you in the new year.
i know i'm jumping the gun on this one... but any word on this??? i'm interested and willing to take the trip.
oh hey race!
sorry about missing out on the december one. i couldnt get out of work like i though i would be able to.
but the black ride is back in top order now, new BB and headset. the ball retainer on the old BB was all gnarled up, i cant believe i rode it around like that for so long.
id be up for Wednesday night rides too next semester.
I can't believe you rode that thing either. The creaking alone nearly killed me. But hey, it's the only way I could keep up. I'll be cracking a bottle of wine or two and going for a bike ride sometime this week. Thursday or Friday maybe? I don't know.Originally Posted by roadgator
I'm just going to post this in all threads relating to Florida now, as there's been mention of it in most of them. Sorry for the annoyance.
edit: P.S. Sorry about taking so long to relay the information. I really shouldn't be trusted with any sort of responsibility.
custom bike frame, by who?
Gainesville's only frame builder on the south side, McGrath Cycles. He has some pictures up here. Gorgeous stuff, for sure. I've got a track fork and custom time trial/pursuit monster on the drawing board with him right now.Originally Posted by Sjayne

wow i didnt know we had a frame builder in gainesville either.
i think we should take a page from the tally folks and promote the **** out of this one and finally get a big turnout. hopefully the scavenger hunt aspect will bring in more than just us bike racers.
i wont be back in town till friday, but im dying for a ride (currently stuck in the snow drifts of colorado, with the folks) so maybe satruday or sunday.
We've got two actually, and maybe more. Lex, the guy who owns Bikes and More on 6th and 23rd-ish runs Villin Cycle Works, but he's on the north side, so as not to play favorites, we have the best of both the south and north sides. Perhaps one day they'll get into a build off. Ahh, the sparks would fly. You've met Brendan before. He's got the mint green bike, short red hair.Originally Posted by roadgator
As for the race, I think Eric has been promoting it fairly well. He mentioned something about flyering bike shops way back in mid December, so hopefully the word is getting out. I'll start trying to make friends with some photo journalism and photography students and try to coerce them into riding. If there are less than 45 people there, I'll feel like I've failed.
But yeah, let me know when you get back, and whether I should bring booze or lycra for the ride.
hey.. what about spoke cards? ... let's be cooler than the jacksonville race![]()
As a burgeoning alcoholic, I'd like to perpetuate the idea of more booze at these races. The Tallahassee race was AWESOME but after dodging cops, and climbing MOUNTAINS for two hours, I couldn't find a drop of booze. That's simply unacceptable in a college town such as Tally.
Jacksonville had it right with a keg of Yuengling, RAGING fire and live music. Kudos to you, my neighbors to the north.
So that's my request for the Gville race: 5,000 beers. I will contribute monetarily to such a worthy cause.
Oh, and I'd like to thank Sara for volunteering to make spoke cards. Hell of a gal, that Sara. I tell you what.
I almost missed the part about me making the spokecards, I was so taken with the compliment.
Mike Arena--- are you in charge of this race?
when did villin cycles start? when i was living up in gainesville i saw this brown bike with weird seat stays like the villins bikes but never heard anything about the company...i just figured it was some weird custom from who knows where.Originally Posted by mikearena
Nope, I'm just the only guy who spends enough time on the computer to post on here. The guy who won the frame in Tallahassee (Eric) is putting it together. That's his e-mail on the flyer.Originally Posted by Sjayne
And Villin Cycles started quite some time ago, I think. The website says five years ago, but I get the feeling that hasn't been updated in a while. He used to do mainly mountain frames I think, but I really have no clue. A friend of mine got one after his Peugot got totaled in a roundabout (read: hefty insurance check), and it sure was nice.
hmm.. I'm stoked.
this thread blew my mind. there are TWO frame builders in gainesville??? DJ WYATT was an apprentice there???
i'm DEFINITELY going to be there for this
edit: i'm EXCITED if you can't tell by the CAPS
Oh yeah, Wyatt, I guess that might make 3. Is he still in town?
Let's have a little roll call... who is planning on going?
okay, fine. i'll go.
yeah i think he is.Originally Posted by mikearena
