Probably not... ... ...I do have a beard but it is not the right style. Glad to see we have a number of riders from here in Kansas who are on the forums... ... ... ... ... ...peace
I'm from the Pittsburg area. I'm jealous of the Lawrence folks. We only have one hill, but there is talk of importing one....

Which forums do you all hang out in? I never see any Kansans on BF. Road, Singlespeed/Fixed, and Foo is where I spend my time. I was really bored today, so that's why I'm in here.
"Yay!" for hills in Lawrence...make my morning commute to class so much more exciting.Originally Posted by canonball

Just a little to the West, is the Lawrence Bike Club. I haven't joined em yet, but they host the annual Octogonia - supposed to be one of the best events in the cycling calendar.
Now that I've checked in, that should be pretty much all of Kansas. Next state please...
Lawrence here. Mostly hang in the SSFG forum as well.
It happens sometimes, people just explode. Natural causes.

I rode from Lawrence to KC last summer and took this route..you'll have to pan out and over from my end point. It wasn't a direct route because the other riders were staying at a hotel on Shawnee Mission PKWY. It is definitely something I'll be doing again this summer.

The Golden Road is really a great road (it is the jog south just east of Linwood), takes you near the river.

Well, my final destination is by the Legends, thus i'm sticking with 24/40 till i hit Basehor, then i'll head north on 155th street..all the way to Leavenworth road...can't ride on 24/40 into KCK, because of the construction going on near the Verizon Amphi.
What kind of bike do you ride? I'm assuming most of the riders here on this use a roadbike to to their "longer" rides?
I bought a Surly Cross-Check to do some touring this summer. I put a rack and fenders on it, and have been commuting on it for the last month or so. Fenders are really nice to have, and I have one pannier and a rack pack that I can bring most anything I need back and forth to work.

I did this yesterday. Not a bad ride... One of these days I'll remember to take my camera.
And, yes, road bike. Although I have a MTB too.
Make your banana pancakes, and pretend like it's the weekend.
Yo, chiefcatchacold, are there still the restrictions about riding a bike through DeSoto? I think it is mostly the road from Johnson County...I protested a few years ago when they put the rule in place, but haven't heard much about it lately.

I've only been in Gardner about a year, so I only know what I've read. Which is that the ban was on 83rd street, east of Kill Creek Road. Not sure if it's still in effect, I didn't see any signs at that intersection, but wasn't exactly looking for them.Originally Posted by mcoons

I rode from downtown into overland park (to JCCC) on Monday via Southwest Boulevard. Fun ride but there are some pretty crappy segments of the Boulevard.
I usually try to sneak in 15-25 miles on saturdays. Anyone feel like meeting up at 8:45 or so at the Indian Creek Trail access point near the SE corner of 119th and Quivira in Overland Park? Leave at 9:00? Saturday the 28th? Wouldn't want to interfere with the JCBC Spring Classic.

I plan to ride northeast-bound on the trail for about an hour, then turn around and be back around 11. Unless I have my new road bike by then, I'll be on a hybrid and probably run an average pace of about 10-12 miles per hour. Whoever shows up, we'll stick together for a leisurely stroll for anyone who feels like coming along.
If it's raining, I'll call it off. Indian creek trail gets ridiculously messy when it rains.
