pT3,N0,R0,V0 - Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath

If you know what pT3,N0,R0,V0 stands for, you know the news my surgeon told me today is cause for celebration. If you do not, read on...

March 29th, 2007, I had surgery for colorectal cancer. Luckily they were able to remove the portion encapsulting the malignant tumour and reconnect "the plumbing". pT3,N0,R0,V0 means the pathology examination of the carcinoma and surrounding lymph nodes has determined the cancer was caught early enough to prevent spreading.

My recovery goal is to ride in the BC Lung Association 200 km Bicycle Trek for Life and Breath in September of 2007. We raise funds for the fight against lung cancer, asthma, emphysema, air pollution and tobacco. Your donation will provide much-needed support for vital medical research and community health programs aimed at improving lung health in our province!

To stay in shape I am already walking 10+ km daily, in two days I will start spinning on an indoor trainer, May 10th I start road cycling again. Please consider supporting my fund raising by going to the BC Lung Association Website and making a donation.

The basic route is from Hazelmere campsite in South Surrey, BC, through the Faser Valley then up to Stillwood Camp above Cultus Lake. The route changes every year to keep it interesting. Check out the BC Lung Association Web Site to see if they post it this year.

Are you thinking of heading North to join us? It is a good ride/time and very well supported.

I have been thinking about cycling in BC for a while. I would love to cycle the length of Vancouver Island...but this may be a good substitute.

Depending on how my recovery continues, we are planning a July Victoria to Port Hardy trip returning via Powell River and the Sunshine coast.

Not a blogger. I usually put the trip up on my website post trip. Christian and David , warmshowers guests starting a world tour, have just completed a backroad trip from Victoria to Port Hardy. We did not make it to Port Hardy due to time constraints. We did make it up to Quadra Island off Campbell river (about 1/2 way). We spent some time on Hornby Island on the way up and then returned along the Sunshine coast. Melissa's account of our trip is on our website - linked off the front page. Pictures should be up soon

We have passed our Lung Association fundraising goal and now are trying to double it.

Yes I am feeling much better.

As part of my training I have bicycled 3,514 km since my surgery March 29, 2007, completed two centuries (100+ miles), 12 Metrics (100+ km) and an eight day 662 km (fully loaded) bicycle tour. The training is doing wonders for my intestinal recovery as well. I am very appreciative of all the support I have received during this "little adventure".

We have raised $2,185.00 toward the BC Lung Association 200 km Bicycle Ride September 8 & 9 and are on track to double our initial goal. Trek weekend is complete. We cycled over to Hazelmere Friday (90 km); rode to Cultus Lake Saturday (100 km); returned to Hazelmere and then home Sunday (187 km). A great weekend, a great cause!
