39 tooth Shimano 600 yes or no ?
I've got the old Shimano 600 group, with a 52/42 or maybe 53/43. I've seen a couple of complete cranks on ebay with a 39 tooth ring. Is it possible to purchase just a 39 tooth ring that would work with my current crank?

Sure, just find one with the correct BCD, and styled as an "inner" chainring (I doubt there are many 39 tooth outer chainrings!) and you are good to go, brand does not usually matter.

??? What ???
Not sure about old Arabesque, but any style after that I know it just bolts right on. I had a 38t Real ring on one.

The two Arabesque cranks I've had were 130bcd; nothing odd-sized about them.

I ride 52/39 on one of my 600 cranksets, this particular set bearing date codes from 1986 ; no issues. My ride home from work has a 14% grade at one point, and the difference between a 39 and the more usual 42 is noticeable, and welcome.
